Brendan's school Daze

Hello all,

I was one of the select few to attend Cleeland in 1973, the year Cleeland changed from Dandenong Girls School to Cleeland High School.

If memory serves me correct there was 32 boys and 600+ girls (lucky)Tongue out

Thtey were'nt quite as prepared as they would have like to have been and the boys had to do typing and cooking as opposed to any sort of wordwork or metalwork.

They shipped in a few portable toilets for us to use which were still in use when I left in 1976

This was the days of Suzi Quattro, Gary Glitter and David Partridge with long hair all the rage for the boys.

Some of the hits of the day still are clasics, "the Night Chicago died", "Hotel California". Heck I still play them today but I must admit to owning the entire Eminem collection.

My two best freinds at school were Tony Mete and John Rehaut, and we were commonly referred to as the terrible trio, spending a lot of our time at the office for numerous misdemeanours, like the time we locked the tennis courts up with students and teachers still in there.

Some of the girls that caught my eye in those days were Margaret Abrahams, Michelle Murphy and Maja De Haan, Hi girls.

In my school photos Stephen (storky ) Russell went on to become a friend for years to come. His health has not been well of late and I wish him well.

Some time in 1975 I instantly became 6" taller due to the platform shoe craze, I would walk like a man on stilts down the corridor.

I think it was 1975 when we 3 decided to skip French on the first day. This lead us to skip French the next week an so on and so. A great plan as we were never missed except when we got our end term report, my French just said "Brendan who ? as the teacher had never seen me.

Peter Campbell was a great eacher for two years and quite patient with our shennanigans, Thanks Pete.

I look forward to a reuninion, my worry is that I won't know anyone, but at my age I worry about that in my own home. Wink

Until later

Brendan Scanlon
